Several years ago, I was inspired by one of the instructors at Clay Arts Vegas, Tom, who sculpts impressive faces on his mugs. I made this piece to practice making eyes, noses, and mouths. I decided this was too big to be a mug, and too short and wide at the top to be a useful vase. So, it became a planter.
